Position Overview:
Responsible for operating machinery, assembling, and preparing wood products, while also ensuring safety and quality control, following blueprints and specifications.
The Woodworker Apprentice will learn every aspect of the wood working process:
SPRINGING Fasten sinuous springs to frame using pneumatic staple gun. This position will need to measure the size of the frame and determine the appropriate amount of springs before cutting the springs to size.
SET UP & OPERATION OF MACHINERY Set up and operate the necessary machinery in the shop to be able to plane, cut, bore, etc. This position creates the parts to create the frame through use of a table saw, band saw, panel saw, boring machine, drill press, and other shop machinery.
ASSEMBLING FRAMES Assemble the frame utilizing the shop drawings provided for the project. Occasionally due to the large size of many of our pieces, this aspect depends on the teamwork of the department. This position would also need to use glue and a variety of clamps to assemble pieces.
FINISHING Apply stains, top coats, wood sealants, etc. to wood frames. Utilize appropriate applications for finishes, mostly done with a HLVP spray gun equipment. This position will also become familiar with color matching order specifications.
