Position Overview:

Performs laboratory procedures in all designated areas of responsibility including recording, performance and reporting of tests and evaluations. Ensures the quality of specimens and testing materials in order to produce a quality, timely result that will benefit the patient. Performs complex clerical and processing functions involving independent judgment associated with the timely, accurate, reproducible reporting of results. Performs diagnostic testing on clinical specimens with little direct supervision following SOP in order to provide preliminary assessment to the clinician about the presence and severity of infection. Performs appropriate quality control to ensure that reported results are accurate and reproducible, and prepares quality assurance reports to assist Lab Supervisors in monitoring the results reported.



Responsibilities:

1. Establishes a track record of producing consistently accurate work that demonstrates attention to detail and reflects well on the organization. Demonstrates personal commitment to high quality work and encourages others to have similar standards.

2. Communicates effectively and appropriately. Uses good judgment as to what to communicate to whom as well as the best way to get that accomplished. Speaks in a clear and credible manner, selecting the right tone for the situation and audience. Listens to others and allows them to make their point.

3. Demonstrates ability to work independently, with minimum supervision, as evidenced by using good judgment and following written and verbal instructions carefully. Reports clearly. Seeks guidance and direction as necessary for the successful completion of duties. Makes decisions in the absence of a Director or Supervisor.

4. Possesses sufficient job skills and knowledge to perform the job in a competent manner. Is able to 10% demonstrate skills and knowledge in day-to-day situations. Demonstrates technical competencies, standards,and skills; and the ability to apply in day-to-day situations.

5. Demonstrates through consistent practice a comprehensive knowledge of all safety protocols applicable to the 10%position. Takes no shortcuts that increase the risks of accidents, personal injuries or equipment failures. Looks for unsafe practices in the workplace and takes responsibility to ensure that others are aware of the potential impact

6. Performs specimen preparation: Centrifugation, transfer of aliquots to containers, measure/ record volumes, ensure appropriate storage conditions / packaging as required for in-house or referral testing.

7. Assists technical staff in loading and unloading specimens from analyzer 10%

8. Responsible for managing inventory in departments to include counting current inventory as well as storing 10% received inventory.

9. Collects and prepares biohazard trash for removal from lab
