Position Overview:

This position is responsible for assisting the lead teachers in preparing the classroom environment and carrying out the daily schedule of activities.  Follows plans and directives of teacher and administrator/director as required.  Is qualified to substitute in a classroom and assume the lead role. Regular Work Hours: As established by the administration.  Unless otherwise scheduled, regular hours are Monday-Friday, 2:00-5.30.  Additional hours may be available with notice.

Responsibilities:

  1.   Performs under the direct supervision of teachers in the classroom or from the Administrator in general office duties.  Follows the prepared schedule of activities.

  2.   Assists with classroom preparation including kitchen and snack duties; assists in caring for the environment.  Keeps classroom neat during and after sessions.

  3.   Is willing to become familiar with Montessori philosophy and is able to assist in the childcare program in a manner that supports and is consistent with the school's educational goals.

  4.   Treat children according to individual needs.  Assists any child who may need help in (a) choosing an activity, (b) organizing materials, (c) completing a task, and (d) returning materials properly.

  5.   Observe and monitor group activities to maximize healthy socialization.  Always ensure orderly and safe conduct among the children.  Follows established classroom, playground, and mealtime rules and procedures for guidance.

  6.   Report any accidents or behavior problems to the lead teacher and/or school administrator.  Records such incidents as required.

  7.   Performs as a member of the school's professional team. Attends all required staff meetings and training programs recommended by the administration. Attends all school functions as requested.

Minimum Qualifications: 

The Childcare Support Aide shall meet all applicable requirements of the Office of Childcare as an “Aide” for the operation of childcare centers. These requirements include completing at least six (6) clock hours of OCC-approved continued training within the first 60 days of employment.  Training includes basic, health & safety training, aide orientation.

The Floating Assistants will be working with children ages two to five for extended periods of time. The job requires significant lifting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and/or sitting on the floor and in child-sized furniture.

Individual goals for professional development, visitations, and observations will be established in collaboration with the Director and reviewed as part of the Employee’s performance evaluation.
