Position Overview:
Covering furniture, including sofas, chairs, and other seating items, using various materials like fabric, leather, and padding using tools like scissors, and staple guns to achieve precise and accurate work.
The Upholsterer Apprentice will learn every aspect of the upholstery process:
FOAM AND CUSHION FABRICATION Cut foam to the appropriate project specifications by utilizing both electric straight and rotary knives. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to adhering foam to the furniture frame using glue and understanding the different foam densities.
SEWING Operate various sewing machines to sew cushions, skirts, or other sections of upholstered furniture. Perform all tasks in the sewing department, including covers of box cushions, welt cushions, pillows, and similar items which have relatively intricate patterns.
FABRIC CUTTING Cut fabric according to various project specifications. This position will be able to look at drawings of the final piece and determine the necessary pieces to be cut and the appropriate measurements, with the aim of minimizing waste. This position will use scissors, an electrical rotary knife, measuring tapes, and rulers to complete the task.
UPHOLSTERY Upholster commercial seating projects. Work includes most of the following: Tacking or stapling material along front rail, outside and inside arms, or onto top outside back; placing and shaping layers of padding over inside of backs..
