We all have a personal desire to accomplish something for ourselves and to be productive members of our community as well. Being responsible allows us to make use of our potentials and skills to accomplish a task, but more importantly, since the intended end goal is really to help others, it translates into a commitment to serve. When one becomes responsible, he/she is using his/her giftedness to help others. Accountability works in the same manner. To be accountable is to own one’s decisions and actions but again, more importantly, it expresses a personal commitment to reach out to those in need. Both responsibility and accountability are twin foundations of civic consciousness, that is, to join in the efforts of everyone working for the welfare of our communities.
