LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Demonstrates understanding of lines, shapes, and space ; and the principles of rhythm and balance through drawing of an archeological artifacts, houses, buildings, and churches from historical periods using crosshatching technique to simulate three-dimensional and geometric effects of an artwork.
Demonstrates understanding of lines, textures, shapes and depth, contrast (size, texture) through drawing.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
Apply their understanding of lines, shapes, and space ; and the principles of rhythm and balance through drwaing of archeological artifacts, houses, buildings, and churches from historical periods using crosshatching technique to simulate three-dimensional and geometric effects of an artwork.
Apply their understanding of lines, texture, shapes and depth, contrast (size, texture) through drawing.
DISCUSSION:
What type of buildings do you see around? Are many of them old or new? Are many of the buildings tall or low? How do you find the designs?
A. Arts Elements:
a. Lines ( crosshatching technique to simulate e-dimensional effect and visual texture )
A line is an element of art that readily catches our attention. Different kinds of lines.
b. Shapes / forms ( geometric three- dimensional forms )
Shape is an element in visual art that can convey a simple idea. It is used as a sign that implies a message. The five basic shapes in art are the geometric shapes: triangles, squares, rectangles, circles and ellipses. From these five basic shapes you can create other more complex shapes such as polygons or combinations of circles and rectangles.
c. Space - ( distance or area )
Principles of Art
What is cross - hatching?
Cross-hatching is a method of line drawing that describes light and shadow. Look at the picture.
The white or the openness of the page shows the light shown on the area. The crossed lines are the shadows of the objects. These shadows are created by the density of the crossed lines. Crossed lines are also curves and movement as seen in the drawings of the pumpkin .
What is rhythm as a principle of art?
When motifs showing lines, colors, and shapes are repeated in regular or irregular intervals, it could be said that there is rhythm in the artwork. Rhythm can create a sense of movement. It can also establish pattern and texture.
What is space in arts?
Space refers to the areas around, within, or between the parts of an artwork . It can be considered as positive: this means the space is white or light. Space could also be negative. This means the background is black or dark. Space can be open or closed, shallow, or deep.
CROSS - CURRICULAR LINKS:
VALUES : Cooperation and following instructions.
MUSIC : Rhythm
MATH : Kinds of lines and shapes
APPLICATION TO REAL-LIFE :
Remember that in order to have a very nice or presentable drawing, everybody must cooperate and follow instruction. Just like in music where rhythm is applied to create a very nice sound. You can create a very nice song if you know when to make the sound higher and lower and in creating a beautiful drawing, you need to use the different kinds of lines and shapes.
ACTIVITY / TASKS:
The students will answer some activity after the discussion:
