How well do you know your verbs? Read the incomplete sentences below and take note of the time expressions used. Supply the most appropriate verbs to complete the sentences.

Every year, we celebrate National Heroes' Day. However, do we really know our heroes? Are we aware of what they've done for our country? Emilio Aguinaldo is one such hero.
Emilio Aguinaldo was born on March 22,1869 in Kawit, Cavite. He joined the Katipunan and later became its leader. He led revolution and these achieved independence of the Philippines from Spain. Under the Malolos Congress, he was elected as the first president of the new republic. He also led the Philippine- American War against the United States because they resisted Philippine Independence. Emilio Aguinaldo died of a heart attack on February 6, 1964 in Quezon City.
C. What are Verbs?
Words that show action or being. Other verbs are composed of two or more words. These are called verb phrases. A verb phrase is made up of the auxiliary verb and the principal verb.
The auxiliary ( or supporting verb helps you determine when the action is done ( like is and was) Other auxiliary verbs are am, is, are, was, were, do, did, has, have, has, shall, will, may, can, might, could, should, and would.
