LESSON OBJECTIVES
Heroism
Sacrifice
Perseverance
A hero is someone who demonstrates courage even when faced with a problem. A hero is someone who does not easily give up even when the odds are against him/her. A hero remains committed to do what is right even when faced with great difficulties. A hero is a person who is always ready to help others in their time of need. A person can become a hero by saving someone who is in danger. A hero is someone who inspires others and gives them strength to go on through life’s difficulties. A hero can also be someone who is willing to sacrifice his/her life so others could live. A hero, however, can also show fear. He/She can also be afraid but still remain a hero through his/her actions. Heroes, after all, are human just like any of us. However, they sense a stronger moral obligation to serve and to help, regardless of whether they are scared or not. Whenever we talk about heroes, we immediately associate personalities from the past who have served our country well.
But sometimes a hero can be a family member or a teacher. Sometimes, some of our friends are heroes, too. These people, through their heroic acts, help us experience a big difference in our life. These are the heroes that are often overlooked and don’t get the recognition they deserve.
A. You will be given memorable quotes from the film. Be able to discuss what you understand about these dialogues. Share your own personal thoughts about them. Write your answer in the box beside each quote.
A hero is someone who is willing to stand up for an important cause, to sacrifice one’s life for the greater
welfare, to volunteer to do something worthwhile without minding the discomfort it may bring, and to uphold without prejudice the rights and freedom of others.
Heroes Change the World
They are people who help others regardless of their own comfort and convenience.
Heroes Motivate Us
We feel safer and more secure when they are around. Heroes help us to become our best selves.
Heroes Can Be Anyone
They can be your parents, friends, a school teacher, a band director, a club moderator, a guidance counselor, among many others. All of them have made their own personal investment in the lives of others.
As a child, you were inspired by stories of knights, of superheroes, and courageous men and women who
did wonderful things and so changed the world around them and made life more meaningful for others. Some of them were your personal heroes and you looked up to them so that they became your models of inspiration.
You admired them because you were inspired by their courage and hoped that someday you could grow up to be brave and strong.
Today, you realized that there are other kinds of heroes and you could actually see them and
watch them as well. They may be basketball players or Olympic swimmers. They may be beauty pageant
winners or famous artists. Perhaps they are explorers and adventurers, reaching Mt. Everest’s peak, or deep ocean divers.
