DISCUSSION
“Help!” is a song by The Beatles released as a single in 1965, and was number one for three weeks in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The song was written primarily by John Lennon, but credited to both him and Paul McCartney.
“Rolling Stone,” a popular music magazine, which listed the 500 greatest songs of all time in a
2004 issue, ranked the song “Help!” number 29. Research shows Lennon wrote the lyrics of the song to express his stress after the Beatles’ quick rise to success. He was overwhelmed by feelings of depression and insecurity and he was crying out for “Help.” In an interview, Lennon revealed that the song was an honest way to express the fears
and doubts he had with the Beatles’ phenomenal rise to fame, and eventually affected his song writing style and gave depth to the songs he wrote.
