DISCUSSION
Respect involves being sensitive to other’s feelings, needs, thoughts, ideas, wishes, and preferences, and recognizing other’s points of view, cultures, and lifestyles. To respect others also means accepting others as they truly are without personal prejudices and biases. Furthermore, it also means that in spite of these differences, everyone has worth and value. To respect others is to recognize these. This includes recognizing their presence, being able to listen to them wholeheartedly, being honest with them, and appreciating their individuality. When you accept that people are different, you are saying that they are unique and special that’s why you respect them. When you show others respect, you create the impression that they can trust you and others can rely on you.
Respect is one of the values that defines the spirit behind the Olympic Games and forms part of the ethical
principle that should inspire all athletes and officials who participate in its programs. The universal call to uphold
the value of respect covers respect in all areas and aspects, including respect for one’s self, respect for one another,
respect for rules and regulations, respect for fair play, and significantly, respect for the environment.
Today, you will have a chance to experience the Olympic spirit. You will be given specific sports with particular
situations that call for a foul. Identify what’s wrong with these situations and explain briefly why.
A. Officiating the Games/Plays
1. A contact occurs when the hand of the offensive player touches the hands of a defensive player that results in
preventing the offensive player from shooting.
2. In the heat of the game, the players began calling the opponents offensive names, consequently irritating the
head coach, which causes him to approach the opposing teams and to warn them verbally. The fans join in and
started throwing different objects in the court.
B. The Game of Life
Share your personal insights and personal opinions about the following statements:
1. Isn’t beating your opponent the primary goal of any game?
2. Why is it important that rules and regulations be followed while playing the game?
3. If you were given the task to handle and coach a team, how would you advise your team for them to win?
Here are other ideas related to respect. Respect, generally, has something to do with recognizing and accepting a sense of worth or value of a person, including personal qualities and abilities. Let’s check them out:

customs, and history.

We need respect to collaborate and to commit to live in a peaceful world. We have the moral obligation to treat
everyone with respect, regardless of who they are and what they have done. We have a responsibility to be the best
that we can be in all situations, even when dealing with unpleasant people. Respect avoids violence, humiliation,
manipulation, and exploitation. When we respect others, we inspire them to become their best.
