A. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Light, Moderate, and Vigorous
Move around for 5 minutes. How do you feel? Did you feel tired? What senses did you use as you move around? What parts of the body did you use for moving?
Moving around is an example of a physical activity.
What are physical activities?
Physical activities are movements of the body that use energy. They can be moving around like home and classroom activities. They may also be walking, sweeping, and washing clothes. They may be activities like running, jogging, dancing, and swimming.
How do physical activities vary?
A physical activity differs according to intensity. Intensity tells how hard your body is working during a physical activity. Any activity may begin from light going to moderate then to vigorous.
Example:
Slow walking can be a light activity.
Brisk walking is a moderate activity.
Running is a vigorous activity.
Let us study these examples of a housework. How would you group the following?

What is a pyramid?
A pyramid is made up of triangles which meet at the top with a base that is either square, rectangle, or triangle. In Physical Education, a pyramid can show many parts. They are the base, the middle part,and the top. The base has activities that should be always done. As one goes up, the activities are to be done moderately to vigorously. At the top of the pyramid are activities that are done once in a while.
What are the aims of the Physical Activity Pyramid?
Cut down watching TV and playing computer games for more than 30 minutes
Do playtime and strength/ flexibility activities two to three days a week.
Exercise four to five times a week.
Do healthful daily activities. Example are using the stairs when going up and walking everyday of the week.
Why are physical activities important?
Participating in physical activities makes you physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially fit. Physical activities, when done properly, control your weight. The calories you eat from food you take are burned by participating in physical activities. Joining physical activities strengthens your bones and muscles. With healthy bones, you're able to do your daily activities and be physically active.
What are the four signs of fitness?
Endurance - is the ability to continue an activity without getting too tired. This can be muscular endurance or cardio ( heart ) endurance. It increases blood and heart activity.
Flexibility - is the ability of the muscles to stretch without discomfort or injury.
Strength - is the ability of the muscles to exert force. Muscles get stronger when forced than normal.
Body composition - is the weight of a person. One must have more weight from lean muscles and bones than fat weight.
Health- and Skill- related Components of Physical Fitness
Fitness is a condition in which an individual has sufficient energy to avoid fatigue and enjoy life. What composes health- and skill-related components of physical fitness?
Agility - is the ability to move and change direction.
Balance- is the ability to keep your body from falling.
Coordination- is the ability to use body and senses together.
Reaction Time - is amount of time it takes for you to react.
Speed- is the ability to move quickly.
Power- is the ability to combine speed and strength.
What is the difference between the two?
Health- related fitness components are needed in everyday life. Skill-related fitness components are specifically related to sports.
Health-related fitness focuses on health. Skill- related fitness focuses on the performance in a sport.
Health- related fitness relates to the overall physical well being of a person. Skill- related fitness refers to the fitness level needed to perform certain fitness activities well.
