Tony Fowler

Tony Fowler, based at Norton in Malton, was born on April 4, 1959, and rode his first winner, Captain Poldark (33-1), at Sedgefield on February 7, 1978.

His six winners in 1978-79 proved to be his highest seasonal total.

The best horse he rode was High Steward.

His final ride was on Quidest, which he trained himself, at Southwell on April 18, 1992.

Tony won the 1980 National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham on Waggoners Walk, easily his biggest success.

He worked as an assistant to Jimmy Fitzgerald and also rode for Frank Dever.
