Hadden Frost

Hadden (pronounced Hay-den) had his first ride on the Flat at Kempton Park on Friday, 15 December, 2004, aboard Sharp Tune, trained by his father. Hadden finished tenth of thirteen on the 50/1 shot. Then he came second on Critical Stage (33/1) at the same meeting.

He didn't have to wait long for his first winner: That came a fortnight later on Grimes Faith 20/1 at Lingfield for Richard Hannon Senior.

This was quickly followed up on his next ride three days later when scoring on trainer Ron Hodges' Over To You Bert.

Four Rides, two wins: not a bad start at all.

A third win that month was achieved on Mill By The Stream at Southwell for trainer Tom Dascombe.

Hadden's first win of note came the following January 2010, when he got David Pipe's Mamlook home by two lenghts from Tasheba in the £25,000 Ascot in the Victor Chandler Hurdle.

Undoubtedly his biggest win came on Buena Vista two months later in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham. Despite making a hash of the last flight, the nine-year-old stormed home having led for much of the way.

In between these two wins, Hadden suffered the temporary loss of two teeth when coming down while leading at Newbury on Night Orbit. It seemed that the whole of the field gave him a horrendous kicking as he fell beneath their hooves: incredibly, he was up on his feet moments late, looking for the lost molars.

He found them and took them with him to the hospital where they were reset straight away.

Hadden suffered a heart-stopping defeat when just failing to better Master Minded in the Grade One Victor Chandler Chase. It took a vintage Tony McCoy finish to settle the issue. Hadden's mount, Somersby, took a keen hold throughout and was somewhat unlucky to go down by a short head.

Hadden admitted being gutted that he got beaten after coming so close.

Hadden said: 'Somersby doesn't have an instant kick, he starts slowly, but when he does hit top speed, he's very quick. We nearly got there.'

In February, 2011, Hadden was banned for 12 days after riding a finish a circuit too early on Romney Marsh at Folkestone. Reportedly, he was in tears after the event.

At Newton Abbot, Sunday, 20 July 2014, Hadden rode his first-ever treble, winning on Detroit Red, Tzora & Watcombe Heights, all for trainer M Hills.

Hadden became involved with The Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

He said: 'The charity isn't well known and there's a shortage of hair at the moment. When hair starts to fall out its a real reality check for these kids who are going through treatment, and I wanted to help.'

Hadden, who always wears his hair long, added: It takes ten pony tails to make make a wig and that's a lot of hair. It also has to be at least seven inches, so mine is about ready to go now.'

In 2014, Hadden set up a saddlery business.

He personally hand-stitches saddles, belts, handbags etc. for sale on his website and shows a real talent for doing so.
