David Frost

Northern-based National Hunt jockey David Frost rode four winners in a career during which he relinquished his licence more than once. His first was La Babur, which won the Falling Leaves Novices’ Hurdle at Teesside Park on October 2, 1968. The only one in the field of fifteen to have run over hurdles before, the four-year-old won by two lengths.

David had to wait almost eighteen months for his next success, although he relinquished his licence for part of that time, eventually joining Wetherby trainer Norman Bradley, for whom he rode the Jack Hanson-owned Glenbarry to win the Bilton Hurdle at Wetherby on Easter Monday 1970.

In January 1971 David again relinquished his licence, and it was more than two years before he was back in the winner’s enclosure, when Barjohn, trained by Mac Turner, won the Carcluie Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at Ayr on March 12, 1973. He managed one more win when Woodjack, also trained by Mac Turner, won the Dunkeld Novices’ Hurdle (Division 1) at Perth on May 23, 1973. He kept his licence for a couple more seasons but there were no further wins.

David Frost’s wins were, in chronological order:

1. La Babur, Teesside Park (Stockton), October 2, 1968

2. Glenbarry, Wetherby, March 30, 1970

3. Barjohn, Ayr, March 12, 1973

4. Woodjack, Perth, May 23, 1973
