Robbie Fitzpatrick

Flat jockey Robert Thomas Fitzpatrick was born in Ireland and started his career with trainer Jim Gorman. He rode his last winner in Ireland on Slightly Sober for Gorman at Sligo on August 6, 1988, and then followed the well-trodden path to Britain, where he joined leading trainer Mark Johnston that same year.

He progressed well and in 2006 he rode a career-best 61 winners. They included a Lingfield 34-1 double in March on Garstang and Lady Bahia for Merseyside trainer Peter Grayson.

However, in February 2007 Robbie was declared a disqualified person for two years after being found guilty of corruptly passing information to a betting exchange punter through a third party. An appeal board verified that decision, finding that he was in breach of Rule 243 in respect of passing information that was not publicly available; of Rule 241 (i) (b) because of his active obstructions of the investigation by failing to produce his mobile phone records for some three months and thereafter by disclosing an incomplete version of them, and Rule 220 (viii) because of the lies he told to investigators about the nature of his relationship with other charged parties.

When his ban was over, Robbie resumed his career, riding 10 winners in both the 2011 and 2012 Flat turf seasons. He rode six winners in 2013 and scored his final British victory on Robbian for trainer Charles Smith in a three-year-old seller at Beverley on May 13, 2014.

He is now a work rider for Godolphin and still takes the occasional mount in the UAE. He rode his last winner there in the 2015/16 season and had his most recent mount on Greatest Hits, who finished last of 15 at Al Ain in January 2019.
