There needs to be a way to distinguish Male and Female Fauns.
Idea: Female have no antlers and Males have more fur on their groin.
Groin comparison: Werewolves. (Below)
Photoshop below the werewolves... quite successful honestly... I'm no artist though.

Can Fauns speak? I sat there dancing with the Fauns for a while and listening to them. I could hear laughter and chuckling quite easily. I even heard some things that sounded similar to "Ha ha" and "he he."
It sounds like they could. Maybe if they knew the common language they'd be able to speak with everyone, but they don't, so they can't.
Brings another idea of how to rectify: Teaching. Someone teaches some Fauns the common language and then those can speak. From those comes a hero, the player.
If they can't speak, then the taught ones would be able to read, write, and understand the common tongue, but still wouldn't be able to speak. Thus they must be enchanted to be able to speak, a permanent enchantment. The earlier idea below.
Ok, so there are some issues with this, mainly because they can't speak, but there are ways to rectify that.
Ideas on how to rectify the "Can't Speak (common)" Issue:
Enchanted by Meridia (or other good deadric lord) to be able to speak common like everyone else {the main theory of how-to}
Um... TBA
Another issue, or fun thing, or... whatever...
They are misunderstood by most places
May be randomly attacked in some settlements, unless the character is well known there
Quest Involvement may be altered by the views of others
May make chat a little longer, like a prologue before the main chat
"Ah! A Faun!" (Skiddish much?)
"It's a Faun! Stay back creature!" (defensive)
Other assorted things
"Now what are you?" (quizzical, never seen a Faun before)
"What's a Faun?" (never heard of a Faun before)
"Wait, you're a Faun? How can you speak?" (Knows what a Faun is, knows they don't speak like normal, they're not a druid, can lead to longer chats)
(reply) I, uh, can speak... naturally... (avoid explanation, may fast forward to main chat or prolong the NPC trying to dig at it)
(reply) I was enchanted by (etc)
(reply) (explains how they're able to speak)
