This page is meant to describe Minecraft-MMO Abilities to those who may be unfamiliar with the concept.
The rest of this website is the documentation for GooP, which is free.
One big reason I made GooP is to allow spicier abilities to put in items for players to have fun.
Abilities are what I sell.
Server owners like to create a unique experience in their server for players to enjoy.
The videogame name is Minecraft, and a lot of people play it, these are players. You can play this game by yourself in a world hosted in your own computer, which people in your same local-area-netork (like your siblings) can join, but not easily your friends from school.
A good way to play with other people is joining a server, a world that is publicly available to join by anyone from around the world. For this, someone has to pay for hosting the server online, this someone is called the server owner.
Players consume content like candy, they are always hungry for more challenges, more areas to explore, more loot to collect, more evil monsters to slay. These are examples of MMO content, where you pretend to be an adventurer in a land of fantasy, collecting magical artifacts to help your journey.
However, as good as Minecraft is on its own, it doesn't really have the depth expected by MMO players, it does not come with the legendary sword that shines with holy light and fires lightning, even though there are "enchantments" there are no magic spells, and there are not many evil monsters! Who will code these things into the game?
A lot of custom content and effort goes into making an MMO server
Some but not all server owners are developers, developers are those who actually add code to the server and make features for the players to enjoy.
There are plenty of developers who take this as a hobby and do it for free, I myself have been in this category since around 2017, it can be a lot of fun!
My favourite thing to do is loot, the reward after the other challenges, the prizes, the spoils of the adventure. I have made a good 1200+ loot items varying weapons, armor, shields, tomes, jewels....
Assorted loot that players may craft/find
There are a lot of tools out there to 'make' (and manage) loot. At the very least, players expect different items to be named differently and have their unique texture. Some items will be of higher quality and have better stats; armor that protects better and weapons that deal more damage.
Usually, loot that is harder to obtain is better.
Though optional, it is fun and immersive to add lore to items (the italics text).
In the end, two swords that have different damage values are the very thing MMO players were not satisfied with, when they were playing Minecraft by itself. And what about players who want to be wizards? Wizards hurl fireballs, not fight with bows and axes!
The best way to make an item feel truly magical, to set it apart from all others, to make it immersive, and to give it an identity, is by abilities. Any sword deals damage when you left click to attack... but only a katana has the 'Katana Slash' ability when you right click!
Making abilities is arguably a form of art, it is a display of color and sound that you must write through mathematics into the computer. There exist simple abilities like the 'Katana Slash' for common items, but when the player finds a mysterious and mythical lamp... it is showmanship in principle that a legendary item must do legendary things, and in this case it is beams of purple magic.
Making abilities takes time and some skill; I do it as a hobby but there are plenty of server owners willing to purchase these from me.
As a developer, I only do business with server owners to add these abilities into their server; It is up to them how it becomes available to the players to actually use and enjoy — the server owners make the loot items, and put them as rewards for whatever challenges they have in their server.
There will be a few ways of purchasing my services:
Monthly subscription via discord, which gets you access to a different ability pack every month, starting at $3 USD a month.
Purchasing in MCModels, where you might purchase the ability pack of any previous month (higher price than the subscription).
Direct negotiation with me, comissions essentially, for deals of upwards of a few hundred dollars.
