In 2008 Las Vegas' DJ Miss Joy wanted to create a supportive platform and bring local talent and the community together for the greater good. It started out one September night in 2008 with a live band to jam behind poets and painters, with DJ's dropping tunes later in the evening. She sought out her friend Jeffrey B. Grindley who had experience and connections to the local poetry and open mic community, to help in hosting and organizing the event. They both share a passion for philanthropy and supporting non-profit organizations. They sought to make it more than just an open mic. Human Experience soon became not simply an event but a part of the community and through all the change in venue and format have now landed strong amidst friends at the Beat Coffeehouse. Now every Monday you can find the whole Human Experience community sharing poetry, art, humor, music, friendship and love.

Every month the Human Experience community chooses a organization in need of volunteers and show support through filling volunteer positions. Also every month, Human Experience partners with non-profit organizations to help achieve the chosen organizations goals. Whether through gathering material goods or assisting with fundraising raffles the Human Experience continues to make a difference through Art, Music, Culture and Activism.
