what am I

what am I

Sami Jabri

I am Yu-Gi-Oh cards and cheap Qurans.

I am that playground I got beat up in and the table I meet my friends at.

I am my mother's hookah and my father’s tie that he put around my neck.

I am meant to be my grandfather’s car magazines and plate of Syrian food but I fail to be.

I am my father’s love of literature in a language I can't read

But I am a game of magic and fighting I shouldn’t know.

I am from a war and a country that I know nothing about and a people that dont call me one of them.

I am the carpet on the floor of the masjid and the sinks in the shoe room.

I am the loud and strange and from the quiet and seldom.
