I am Your
Nightmare
I am Your Nightmare
Bri Laws
I am… the dream of terror that leaves you screaming in the dead of night
the cold sweat that glues your wet clothes to your small shivering body
the viscous doubt that seems to pull you deeper and deeper down
the creature with eight legs that gently traces your sleeping form
the visions you see in the dark corners of your endless room
the heart wrenching loneliness that seems to last an eternity
the slightly ajar closet door you wish you could just nail shut
the emptiness in the corner that your pets growl and hiss at
the dryness in your mouth that chafes your swollen tongue
the scentless gas that can assassinate you without a trace
the drowning feeling as the dread fills your straining lungs
the sleep deprivation as you fall into a cycle of insomnia
the flames of hell that flicker with every sin you commit
the small sounds your frightened ears pick up all night
the false hope that plagues you every day, every hour
the empty promises that haunt you with endless guilt
the tallest building your brain urges you to leap from
the fly on the wall that knows your every little secret
the nausea deep in your gut that won't go away
the shortness of breath you feel when I'm near
the creature in the water you can feel, not see
the impending failure you are destined to face
the darting of your anxious, bloodshot eyes
the foaming maw of a rabid canine
the loss of a loved one
the loss of yourself
the loss of humanity
the loss of everything
the loss of all
All you see
All but me
I… am your Nightmare
