Oh So Perfect

Oh So Perfect

Claire Luke

The “oh so perfect” girl’s secret collection stays far tucked under her bed until after every meal. She stores it there so no one will find what should never meet the eyes. Everyone who wants to be her always tells her she looks so good... but her friends must say she’d look better if she’d lose a few. What they’re unaware of is what has been truly poisoning her. Her secret collection, it lays under her bed waiting for the remains of each meal and although she replaces it often, her room is never rid of the foul, wretched smell. Her secret collection may come as a brown paper bag and a surprise to everyone that once does find out. But her secret collection is her sense of security and feeling of control. But in a reality that the “perfect girl” has not come to terms yet, her secret collection has completely taken over her life. The “perfect girl” leaves dinner tables early to find her sense of relief through her secret collection once again. Her parents do not know but once they do, they'll be shattered. But the secret collection is much more powerful than the thought of how her parents may feel, it has intruded this girl’s mind. She feels extreme physical and mental weakness but during all her moments with her secret collection she feels a high. She feels powerful. She feels indestructible. Then, her world comes crashing down as one dark night after she throws up all the remains of her dinner, her mother walks in to say good night to see her daughter lying on the floor. It's been three days and the once truly perfect girl is laying in a chilly, hard hospital bed, just barely coming out of her coma. Three doctors around her, a feeding tube in her stomach, her parents’ worried faces. The bulimic girl is just itching to pull this tube out and go back to her secret collection.
