This village has a special significance for me, as it was here that quite by chance I ended up in a cosy Estaminet on route back to my then home in Amsterdam. I immediately fell for the people and culture and decided there and then that I would buy a house somewhere in the area. Fortunately this turned out to be one of the wisest and most important impulse decisions of my life!
The village itself has 5 cafes, a couple of restaurants and a very good friterie.
There are several more bars and restaurants scattered around Mont de Cats (Katsberg) which rises to the south of the village.
During WW1 the awkward name of the town gave Tommies as much trouble as Ypres (Wipers) so they renamed it 'Gertie-Wears-Velvet'!
