Radio Uylenspiegel first came on air in January 1978 when a couple of locals, equipped with very basic radio equipment climbed the church tower in Cassel and began to broadcast illegally. Their aim and the continued aim of the now legal station, is to promote and protect the local Flemish culture and language.
In recent times the station had lost its identity somewhat, with too many request shows and too little focus on its original aims. Fortunately a new regime has taken over, and under the directorship of 'Bruno Lobert' the station has succeeded in regaining its identity. The musical content is now firmly Folk and very much worth a listen in its own right.
The station has its headquarters on the Grand Place in Cassel and can be received over the air waves from as far away as Oostende and Dover. If you live further afield, you can click on the link below.
