Housed in the most impressive building on the Grand Place, the museum was closed for several years during which it went through extensive renovations, largely funded by 'Departement du Nord'. It eventually reopened in 2010 as the 'Musée de Flandre'.
Uniquely it exhibits cross border Flemish art from the 15th century to the present day, and has proved to be highly popular, with a good proportion of its visitors coming from Belgian Flanders.
The exterior and interior of the building are impressive in their own right and care has been taken to preserve as much of the original character as possible whilst still providing the required level of comfort, security and safety.
Guided tours are available in French, Dutch and English.
