Saint Hubert

'Saint Hubert's Day' is celebrated annually on the 3rd Sunday of the month. One of the most impressive celebrations takes place in the fields below the Abbey on 'Le Mont des Cats' (Katsberg) near Godwaersvelde.

Being that Hubert is the 'Patron Saint' of Hunters, the open air ceremony involves hunters, horses and hounds. Many other non hunters join in to have their horses and other animals blessed.

Apart form the religious aspect, there are several other attractions including an impressive whole ham barbecue and various stalls selling local produce.

The whole event can be very atmospheric, with baying hounds and the sound of ancient hunting horns ringing around the misty mountain top....sorry if I am getting carried away.
