Cassel, Aux Trois Moulins

Now sold, it will reopen in the summer of 2022

A classic family run Estaminet with bags of charm.

They have some good beers well hidden in the fridge (ask!), plus the local 'La Luxe du Moulin' on tap.

Taking pride of place in the side room is an ancient chip fryer in which son Ronald fries up the finest fresh cut chips, using traditional oxe dripping.

The main dishes are Potjevleesch (maison), Carbonade (maison), Steak Haché, Pork Chops, Frikandelle (industrial chip shop sausage), all accompanied by Ronald's super Frites and Francine's special salad. Freshly made simple 'Croques' are available at most times.

Don't be put off if all looks dark inside, they are not overly enthusiastic as regards electricity consumption, just try the door and see if it opens. Once over the threshold, you will be sure to be made welcome, and soon become a part of landlady Francine's extended family.

Service is 'inquisitive friendly', so be prepared to bare all before finally being poured a beer.

Do ask to see the fourth Moulin. If you can make its wheel turn, you will earn a prize!
