It is important to show evidence of the skills you used in the making of your product. Also important is the safe use of materials, tools, and equipment.
The examples here show different ways of documenting your work.
What features of this documentation Demonstrate skills and knowledge?
You should include images of steps, tools, and machines used in the manufacture of your product.
In addition, any health and safety steps you took should also be documented.
In MYP Year 5, we expect your photographic documentation for Criterion C to:
include clear, sharp images of the steps
images cropped to focus on the task, step, or action
how no distracting background or elements
be taken by you
For screenshots, we expect the images to:
be at a resolution where any text is clear and readable
only show the relevant parts of the screen
not include unnecessary toolbars, windows, or desktop elements.
In MYP Year 5, we expect your annotations for Criterion C to:
Be between approximately 15-25 words
Use appropriate technical vocabulary
Document the important steps of the manufacture
Use arrows if necessary to help understanding
Fusion 360 has two useful features that you can take advantage of to help document your work.
The built in "Capture Image" feature allows you to take a screenshot of the workspace. It is similar to the screenshot function on your computer except that you can specify details such as transparent background and image size. It doesn't include the toolbars; if you want toolbars you should use the system screenshot application.
Use the timeline in the software to go to specific points in your production process.
Technical skills are the "hard skills" that you need to accomplish a task. Typically, these are the skills that you are taught in the design class. For example:
using Adobe Illustrator to prepare a file for laser cutting
creating a 3D parametric model for 3D printing
cutting plywood using a handsaw
using scratch to create a simple escape room program
programming a robot to follow a predefined course
programming an Arduino
Before using any equipment or materials in the Design Studio it is important to be aware of any health and safety risks.
These documents are published by the manufacturer and include information about the health and safety risks of the material.
You should know how to use any equipment and tools. Your teacher and technician should provide you with training. Check with you teacher before using any equipment.
