The development of this website involved a multi-faceted process, combining human work with the selective use of AI tools. The goal was to create a cohesive and engaging narrative that effectively communicates design concepts and their practical applications.
A significant portion of the content was derived from my own writing, previously published on the Design and Inquiry website. This foundation provided a source of insights, content, and perspectives. Additionally, the writing drew upon a comprehensive design library, reading, and research to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the information presented.
To enhance the content creation process, several AI tools were leveraged:
Perplexity: Utilized for research and fact-checking, ensuring that the content was informed by the latest developments in design education.
Gemini: Assisted in generating ideas and drafting initial passages, helping to streamline the writing process.
NotebookLM: Facilitated organization and analysis of research, helping to synthesize complex information into clear, relevant passages
Elicit: Played a role in academic research, providing access to a database of scholarly articles and aiding in the identification of key themes and concepts.
Diffit: Provided AI translations into Korean and Chinese, the main mother tongues of students at our school. Diffit was also used to modify text passages to a grade-ten reading level to improve accessibility for students.
To achieve a consistent voice across the website, an AI persona was developed to maintain a uniform tone and style. This approach ensured that content was not only informative but also concise, engaging and accessible to a wider audience. Reading and lexile levels were guided by the Lexile Word lists from the Lexile and Quantile Hub
Each piece of content was reviewed to ensure accuracy, clarity, and coherence. Drafts were refined and edited to achieve the goals of relevance, clarity, conciseness, and accessibility.
Visual elements, including icons and infographics, were sourced from platforms like NounProject and Napkin.ai. Images were created using Ideaogram.ai, ensuring that all visual content was both engaging and ethically sourced. Citations and references are provided at the bottom of each page, reflecting a commitment to academic integrity and transparency.
