iBooks Author was an e-book authoring application by Apple Inc, released in early 2012, only available for macOS, and discontinued in 2020. Documents created by iBooks Author could only sold for a fee if they are accepted by and distributed by Apple, but authors also had the option to distribute their work elsewhere for free. It allowed many aspects of a document to be edited in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get fashion, including text, fonts, colors, foreground and background images, interactive widgets, and charts. iBooks Author was discontinued on July 1, 2020, with Apple suggesting Pages as a replacement.
