Mudbox is Autodesk’s 3D digital painting and sculpting software. It allows users to sculpt and paint highly detailed 3D geometry and textures with a more intuitive, tactile toolset. It is available through CAEN to select students and faculty, or can be downloaded for free by students and educators through Autodesk's educational licensing program for 1 year, which may be renewed at no cost as long as eligible. Mudbox is highly compatible with Maya, and models can be sent between the two seamlessly, or Mudbox can be used alone to adjust existing models or to build them up from scratch. It has a fairly easy learning curve, though you may want to familiarize yourself with its interface and tools through the LinkedIn Learning essential training before embarking on your first project. Autodesk also has a large user guide with helpful explanations of all the tools and their settings.
