3DP Printing Service
3D Printing Service
The Fabrication Underground operates four industry-standard 3D printers to handle a variety of needs: small parts, big parts, full color parts, clear parts, and parts that require variable ‘Shore A Softness’ values. The types of 3D printers in our collection include:
General Purpose 3D Printing - The Formlabs Form 3 is a cost effective desktop stereolithography (SLA) 3D printer that can produce parts with smooth surfaces and high feature detail in a variety of materials such as tough, high temperature, elastic, and clear.
Multi-Material 3D Printing - The Stratasys J850 is an advanced high resolution PolyJet 3d printer that provides the best surface quality and dimensional accuracy. The J850 is capable of digitally blending up to 6 materials which allows for the production of clear, color, or rubber-like flexible parts. Even a combination of rigid and flexible bodies within the same part is possible.
Large Format 3D Printing - The BigRep Studio G2 fused filament fabrication (FFF) operates much like a typical desktop 3D printer but offers 10 times the build volume. BigRep offers many materials that have been specially formulated for best results such as flexible TPU, Pro-HT, and high strength PET-CF.
Micro-Scale 3D Printing - The Asiga Max X digital light processing (DLP) 3D printer is best suited for small objects that require extremely high feature detail and smooth surfaces such as jewelry, plastic components for electronics, microfluidic devices and so on. It is a very small 3D printer so it can't handle parts much larger than your thumb, parts that are composed of moving mechanisms, or parts with walls thinner than 0.25 mm or greater than 3mm thick.
Getting started is easy, submit your 3D computer model through our online 3DP Quote Request form and you will receive a quote within 1-2 business days. Once approved, parts are ready for pick-up typically within 5 business days but that can vary dependent of the print queue. If you are curious about the print queue check out our new 3DP-Stats dashboard.
We are happy to 3D print parts for anyone at the university but all 3D prints must be paid for with a U-M short code, no cash, no credit cards.
