Maya is Autodesk’s professional 3D modeling and animating application. As the industry standard for much of TV, film and gaming, it is a valuable software in your creative tool belt. Maya is available through CAEN to select students and faculty, or can be downloaded for free by students and educators through Autodesk's educational licensing program for 1 year, which may be renewed at no cost as long as eligible. Maya can be as deep as you need for a project, or contain just the necessary tools to render a scene, complete a model or create a full fledged animation. It has a moderate learning curve, as the interface is not highly intuitive, but knowing that basics can take you far. You will want to familiarize yourself with these through the LinkedIn Learning essential training before embarking on your first project. Autodesk also has a large user guide with helpful explanations of all the tools and their settings.
