AutoCAD is a computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software application, developed and marketed by Autodesk, that architects, engineers, and construction professionals rely on to create precise 2D and 3D drawings. Use AutoCAD to draft, annotate, and design 2D geometry and 3D models with solids, surfaces, and mesh objects; automate tasks such as comparing drawings, counting, adding blocks, creating schedules; and customize your tools with add-on apps and APIs. AutoCAD also includes many specialized toolsets like those for Architecture, Mechanical, Map 3D, MEP, Electrical and Plant 3D projects. AutoCAD is available through CAEN to select students and faculty, or can be downloaded for free by students and educators through Autodesk's educational licensing program for 1 year, which may be renewed at no cost as long as eligible. It has a moderate learning curve, as the interface is not highly intuitive, but knowing that basics can take you far. You will want to familiarize yourself with these through the LinkedIn Learning essential training before embarking on your first project. Autodesk also has a large user guide with helpful explanations of all the tools and their settings.
