3DP-TIPS
3DP-TIPS: 3D Printing Training & Instructional Printing Support
The Fabrication Underground has several 3D printers available for reservation by Faculty, Instructors, and Student Advisors to support their classroom instruction. Our 3DP-TIPS service differs from a typical 3D printing service in that the student get much more 'hands-on' with the technology. Students who complete the required online training will receive a 'Certificate of Completion' presented in the PDF format which can easily be submitted to an assignment. Training material is easily accessible through our Equipment Certification Canvas course which everyone is welcome to participate. 3D printers in this collection include:
Entry Level 3D Printing - The Prusa MK 4 desktop fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printer is an easy to learn, simple to use, low cost solution that is ideal for the beginner. Students operate the Prusa MK 4 3D printers themselves but before doing so they learn machine operations and how to 'slice' their 3D computer model using Prusa-Slicer; which is covered in our Canvas course.
General Purpose 3D Printing - The Formlabs Form 3 stereolithography (SLA) 3D printer combined with the Form Auto is a good choice for those who need a bit more from a 3D printer. The Form 3 is a high resolution resin based system that is best for users who have an intermediate skill set. Students submit build files to the print queue for review but before doing so they will learn how to operate the Form 3, how to properly position parts, and how to generate supports using the PreForm slicer by Formlabs; all covered in our Canvas course.
Large Format 3D Printing - The BigRep Studio G2 is an industrial fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printer intended to print large objects that can be up to 1 meter across. The BigRep is built on simple 'no-nanny' technology making it best for users who have an advanced FFF skill set. Students submit build files to the print queue for review but before doing so they will learn how to operate the BigRep and how to to generate a build files using the Blade slicer; which is covered in detail in our Canvas course.
