The Presenter Computer, in the Personal Studio comes with an annotation display, so you can notate live, while recording. This allows you to emphasize something on the desktop of the computer, you are sharing to your audience. This video will help to better understand the annotation display.
Use included stylus or your finger, for annotating on the display
The annotation display in the Personal Studio is known as the "Presenter Computer." is an ELO touch screen display that allows you to draw on top of whatever is on the desktop of the computer, while giving your presentation,. This machine is connected to both the Teleprompter and the Capture Computer in the room. Annotations will be recorded by the Wirecast software wile recording in the room.
Login to the Presenter Computer
Along the top Menu bar on the Presenter Computer select the symbol of a hand touching a display
This will launch the "annotation tools" ribbon onthe display.
After adjusting the ribbon settings so it looks like you want it to, we recommend adjusting the opacity so it is not as viaible during your presentation.
Use a stylus or your finger to draw or annotate as needed on the display.
NOTE: You will want to delete your annotations before moving to your next slide. The software does not do this for you.
NOTE: To turn off annotation functions, currently we suggest logging off and back in to your account. This will deactivate the annotation tool.
Feel free to push, pull, and rotate the camera to any position that fits your needs. Do not pull the cables from either the camera or equipment rack. Always leave a little slack.
The height of the Teleprompter can be adjusted with the wired controller that typically sits on the desk. This allows for both up and down movement. Be gentle with the controller if the camera is moved away from the desk (where the controller may lay on the ground)
In the dock of the Presenter Computer, we provide a link to a simple to use Teleprompter site called "Cueprompter."
Within the browser window copy and paste your text
Adjust your text size, margins, and scrolling speed to your liking
If you do not care for the constant scrolling of a teleprompter, feel free to make a presentation in apps like Powerpoint, Google Slides, or Keynote to use as a supplement to a teleprompter.
Use 3-5 sentences per slide in your slideshow
Too much text allows the viewer to see you reading along with the script
Place it big and bold in the center of screen
Use Kensington remote or keyboard to move through your slides.
This computer really excels at presenting a slide shows to assist in presentation.
the ELO display has annotation tools that allow you to draw on the desktop of the computer. This helps to focus portions of your slides for the audience to see from home.
NOTE: This computer setup CANNOT USE PRESENTER NOTES. Presenter notes is the assist feature in many slide show apps. It typically allows the user to view their notes on one screen while the audience sees the real presentation on the projector or display. This room does not function this way. We cannot see presenter notes when used. As far as the room is concerned.
Options rather than using presenter notes
Practice your presentation without the presenter notes. I know this can be difficult, but it is an option available for this room
Run your presentation on BOTH your laptop and the Presenter computer
Connect your laptop to the "laptop adapter" and connect your machine to the Capture computer
Open your presentation for the slides
Place presentation notes on the Presenter computer
In Wirecast, use your laptop connection for showing the slides in your presentation
On the Presenter Computer, use the presenter notes (or script) so you can talk directly to the camera in the Teleprompter
The disadvantage here is clicking between slides on BOTH computers simultaneously. However it works
Record only with your script on the teleprompter and add presentation in post production
If you record on the teleprompter computer with the green screen behind you, can edit out the green and use jpegs of your slides in applications like Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
You would not want to use effects, in this version, everything should be added in post production
Feel free to reach out to Groundworks staff to assist you with this process. We can help get you up and running.
As confident as we are with the resources within the Duderstadt Center, we do work in technology. It is possible for something to not work correctly from time to time, no matter the care we take to prevent it. If you are having an issue with the Personal Studio, feel free to try these suggestions with the Presenter Computer.
Staffed hour support. Press the "need assistance" button located on the main desk
The Groundworks Media Lab, on the first floor of the Duderstadt Center is where we have people to help support the Personal Studio
Our staffed hours are between 9-6pm M-F and noon-6pm on Sun.
This is best used during our staffed hours of the building. It will send a Slack message to the staff notifying us that you need assistance.
Many people see these notifications, please be respectful with button pressing.
People at the information desk, may have a few tips to recommend, but they do not support the room.
If your issue is occurring after our normally staffed hours (9-6pm M-F, and noon-6pm on Sundays), you may need to report an issue.
Select the "Report an Issue" icon on the dock of the Presenter Computer.
This will submit a ticket to our IT group so we can address the problem when we are in the office. Though restarting the computer does fix a lot, it may not fix the specific issue you are having.
Please be descriptive. Let us know what was occurring when you had your issue "After restarting the computer, Wirecast can not see the audio interface," is a better example than "mics don't work."
Restart Computer
We know this sounds cheesy, but it is amazing how much this can fix.
