Clubbing in the Design Labs

What clubs can use the Design Labs?

Any student organization aligned with the DMC mission is welcome in the Design Labs.  We especially encourage groups who can really use our resources:  those whose purposes are related to DMC technologies or who practice creativity and design, or who model interdisciplinary collaboration.

What do clubs do in the Design Labs?

Lots of stuff!  For instance: ad hoc meetings, regular meetings, and special events like 

• design sprints & ideation

• video screening

• audio listening

• you name it - athon

• show & tell

• play testing

• showcasing

• workshops...

Ad Hoc Meetings

You may gather during open hours in Design Lab 1 and anytime in Design Lab 2.  If your group is larger than 6 people, we strongly suggest you check the calendars to see if a large group is scheduled to be meeting when you arrive (DL1 Events or DL2 Events). If so, you can still come, but plan to talk or work quietly if a presentation is taking place.   

Regular Meetings

We love hosting student organizations, especially if dedicating some of our resources to your cause will make a difference for you.  Do you need storage space for works in progress or tools you don't want to haul around? Do your team members need access to special software? Would you like to meet where it's easy for others to observe your activities and join in?  If you'd like to hold your regular club meetings in Design Lab 1 or Design Lab 2, please let us know by completing a Request for Regular Meetings in the Design Labs

Special Events   

To request a reservation for a public event, first check the calendar (DL1 Events or DL2 Events, for updated information check out DL 1 (DC1321) or DL 2 (DC1365) on 25live) to be sure another group is not already planning something big on the date you'd like.   Events may be held when the Design Labs are not staffed but if you can find a time during our staffed hours, that would be helpful (noon - 9PM Monday - Friday; noon -6PM Sunday ).

If there are no conflicting scheduled events at the time you'd like to hold yours, send a description of your event to DesignLabs-info@umich.edu.  Please provide at least 1 week's notice.
