About the Serger
A serger is not your usual sewing machine; instead of sewing a variety of stitches this machine can only complete variations on an overlock stitch. Though the machine may be more "limited" than a home sewing machine, it can be used to finish raw edges of handmade clothing to increase its longevity. It also can be used to sew knit and stretch fabrics, which are normally difficult to sew on a domestic machine.
The serger additionally has a function that allows you to trim the edges of your fabric while you're sewing, this function can be activated and deactivated as needed.
Unlike a domestic sewing machine which uses two sources of threads (upper thread and bobbin thread) the serger uses three to four sources of thread, so expect a bit of a challenge when prepping the serger for use!
This machine is available for reservation upon the completion of our Canvas training course. Reservations for the machine can be made during Design Lab's open hours.
