Design Lab 1
Design Lab 1 is an open classroom that dynamically supports collaborative learning to promote new ideas informed by the many-varied design and creative practices that surround the Duderstadt Center.
Prototyping in Design Lab 1
Paper & Clay Prototyping
Our low-low fi prototyping bench holds so many possibilities, with absolutely everything you need to make something in 3 minutes. Or less!
Drafting & Assembly
Sketch your design at the drafting workbench and make it a reality at the construction workbench.
Designed for beginners, this bench has the basic tools and components you'll need to include simple electronics in your prototypes. Coming in mid-September: Electronics Project Kits will be available for checkout from Groundworks.
We have two sewing machines! Come in anytime to use them. And no worries if you've never sewn before; our staff on hand can talk with you about your project and help you get set up. On top of that, we have an archive of scrap fabric to get you immediately started on whatever you desire.
Cutting Machine
The Cricut Maker 3 cutting machine is a precise cutting tool for paper, fabrics, and other flat materials. With a sharp knife, it cuts your digital design onto the material of your choice, similar to having a printer print on paper of your choice.
Other Resources
By popular demand from our users and DMC Fellows, Design Lab 1 hosts two community resources that fit neatly with our other tools and supplies.
Meetings
Regular Meetings
Design Lab 1 is never exclusively reserved. We invite project teams, clubs and classes to gather here in the company of others. DMC Fellows on site will help facilitate the sharing of resources.
