Time Capsule Drawings

In this assignment, we were asked to create three different pieces of art, a self-portrait, a room (my room), and any object (a mason jar) using graphite. We would come back to these drawings at the end of the year (now) and reflect on how we have grown as an artist. Fir the self portrait, I did not use a mirror or a photo of myself, I just drew what I though I might look like, which turned out to not look much like me at all.

To compose these drawings, I did not have any principals of art in mind, I just draw what I saw as we did not review them before starting each drawing. Coming back to these drawings later after practice that skills used in each piece, I have realized how much I have grown as an artist. My portrait is far more exact and proportional, and the linear perspective drawing creates a space that is far more accurate because I used techniques such as finding the horizon line, and identifying the focus point. In doing this, a more accurate 2D drawing with 3D effects was created. In the second drawings, each one was far more thought-out than the ones that we did at the beginning as I spent about 3 more hours on each one.

Although there is no deeper meaning behind each time capsule drawing, each one represents a part of my life. For cups at house, we only use mason jars, the self portrait is me, and the room is my bedroom. I am most proud of the way that I was able to complete the tasks even though each drawing was very hard considering we were given no instruction on how to best create each drawing. I struggles the most with the drawing of my room. I had a hard time creating a space that was proportional, as I did not known any rules that would help make the drawing look more realistic as a linear perspective piece. Each piece could be far stronger, and every piece is either nonrealistic, or non proportional.
