Modified Contour

In this project, we were asked to draw a hand holding an object, and three views of a shoe: the front, side, and top. To accomplish this, I had to draw exactly what I saw, and not what I think I see, or what seems right. Of course, this is very hard, - especially when not drawing from a photograph - so the drawing became sketchy, however one of the standards was making sure that sketchiness was not a part of this drawing, but line depths were, to resolve this problem, I erased the shaded parts, and added dark or light lines, depending on what part of the shoe.

The goal of this piece was to create a drawing that was proportional, and had balance. To achieve this, I first tried start my piece, in a where the drawings would fit the rest of the page, and be centered, unfortunately, my hand drawing failed to do so. To prevent this from happening again in my shoe drawing, I strategically placed each view so that they would not overlap, or carry off the page, this helped to balance the piece, and because of the the shoe drawing became more pleasing to the eye. There were many ups and downs to this piece, At first I had no idea of how to start, or where to place the lines, but once I started adding strokes here and there, slowly the piece began to evolve, and I became more comfortable with trial and error.

This project has no inner meaning to be portrayed, by reason that it was an assigned task that had fairly strict rules that had to be applied. I am most proud of the front view of the shoe. I struggled with drawing the front view of the shoe, because I found it extremely difficult to draw only what I saw, while making the correct proportions. At first I also struggled at how and where to start, to overcome this struggle, I started adding more lines to see if I would be able to see more things and therefore my artwork would slowly begin to take it's form. I wish that all of my drawings were less sketchy. To fix this in the future, I would think about where each line should go so that I would not have to erase as much, I would also erase all the excess lines.
