Watercolor
This is my Donate Life artwork that I created for a local competition with the mission to spread awareness about organ donation, and to hopefully gain followers who are willing to "Give life" to another person after they die. It is clear through this piece that im trying to show how donating organs and literally grow life, as seen through the tree–the giving tree–growing off of the heart which is supported by two hands raised in a sort of holy position.
To create this piece, I first started out with a simple sketch. After this, I knew I wanted to use pen, so I traced the pencil with pen. After this process was finished, I realized that the artwork still looked very simple and bland, so, even though it was never my intention to, I added watercolor. This however did not go as planned because the water from the watercolor made the pen ink move around and bleed out into other areas. Even though I was not expecting this to happen, I was still able to go over the piece with pen after it dried to define some of the featured that got gotten smudged with the water. Dealing with this issue was part of the evolution of this project, and even though it was unexpected, I actually ended up like how the bleeding pen ink looked–it added a good sense of depth and made the shadows more prominent. If I were to continue with the project, I would likely add a background color like I did with my other Donate Life design for 2D.
