The evident idea within this piece is a moment shared with one of my closest friends, Brooke. I would say that she is somebody that I, "couldn't live without." The story behind this moment captured was it was the night before the first day of school. Nerves were buzzing and stress was building, so, we decided to take a brisk walk through town at night. Brooke and I ended up getting tired, so we layed down in the field with the bights hanging above. We both put our feet up and dangled our legs in the air while the background was lit up by lights.

I loved this moment because it was the last care-free moment before schoolwork began piling up, and so I chose this snapshot of one of my last summer memories as my topic for my piece. This piece was created by sketching with a 2b pencil as I recreated my photo on my photo into a picture on paper.

I essentially began to sketch out the outlines of the main forms in the photo– our legs and feet. I paid attention to the shaped of our legs in comparison to each other’s feet and legs to keep it proportional. I didn’t want the background to be ignored, so I began making an emphasis on the lights strung up behind our feet. This sketch began to evolve as I began to shade some shadows to create depth and contrast between shades of graphite of the sketch. I was proud of how our shoes, in particular, came out because I think they look detailed and accurate especially in regards to the original photo.
