Watercolor
For this piece, my class and I were required to create a peice that supports becoming an organ donor for a contest. Although this piece is for a contest, it is also very important to me because my grandpa was unable to get a lung transplant, as most very old people aren't, and even though we knew that getting a lung transplant to save his life would never be possible, the idea of becoming an organ donor still resonated with me. For this reason, I decided to make the hands in my painting that of an elderly person.
To create this piece, I first started with my sketch. After my sketch was complete, I then want in with watercolor. When applying the watercolor, I went in everywhere on the hands with a very watered-down brown before adding the darker shadows, and finishing doing the smallest highlights with a white pen.
Like all my paintings, I used the process of layering to complete it. But, after I wash finished with the main subject of the painting - the hands and heart, I noticed that the white space was to prevalent, so I went in with a soft-ish pastel blue to possibly give some reference to heaven. If I were to continue with this piece, I would add a shadow/reflection for the hands to give the hands some placement in space.
