Marker and Pen
For this sustained investigation, I really wanted to portray daydreaming. I feel like a lot of teens can get stuck in their heads and let their imagination take them places the bring back good and bad memories. Following this idea, I decided to create this piece in hopes of capturing what daydreaming might look like through art. To do this, I used unnatural colors and planets to show the exploration of the imagination.
To create this piece, I really wanted to get outside my cmfort zone and experiment with a new medium that I used to fear: markers. I havent used markers since I was little and have always been afraid of them because of how unforgiving they can be. Before using the markers, I decided to recyle and give new meaning to one of my time capsule drawings- a self portrait of myself from a downward angle. I really liked this drawing and felt like the unique perspective would make for an intersting piece. After finding this piece, I went over the face in a fine-point pen and added the stars and planets before going in with markers. When using the markers, I wanted to play with color and add it to places where it would not be seen naturally. I also leanred that you can use markers in layers to creat depth and shawdows.
Overall, I am proud of this piece, and happy with the way I was able to bring a somewhat boring self portrait to life. However, if I were to add to this piece, I feel like going in with a white pen and adding highlights would bring it to the next level.
