Duck Stamp

Soaring Swan

9' X 11'

Acrylic and pen

For this project, I was required to create a piece for the Maine Duck Stamp project. For this project, my class and I created some sort of art piece that displays a species of duck, I decided to do a tundra swan. To create the swan, started out sketching before layering acrylic paint and then finally adding pen to add emphasis and definition. At first, I was not going to add pen because I wanted this piece to look more realistic, but once I was finished painting, the art piece looked sloppy. Because of this, I decided to clean up some lines, and I actually ended up really liking the look of the pen.

For this project, I felt really inspired to do a swan because I have always found them to be so beautiful and different from any other type of duck. I love how majestic they look and how long their necks are. To really bring out the beauty of the swan, I made the wings a little bit longer, while still keeping the swan looking realistic, just like I learned in the bell ringer video. In this piece, the viewer can make out that a lot of the lines are thicker than others and the purpose of this was to bring even more emphasis to the beauty of the shape of the swan .
