New Vision of an Old Work #1

Plane Naps

The main idea the guided my artwork was the old work - sustained investigation #12. The original to the piece was something that I wanted to revise because of how boring it is: there is no shading and no color it is all just very basic, simple line work done with pen. I knew that this piece would be fun to revise because it would be like working in one of those coloring books.

To create the revised piece, I knew that I wanted to bring up the scale from 5' x 8' to 9' x 11'. To do this, I printed out the original in a bigger size and used a lightbox to trace in onto thicker mixed media paper. After my basic design was transferred with a fine point pen, I began adding in new details such as the planets and stars to make the passenger - me - look like even though I am in an airplane, I am also in space. After adding these new details, I went in with color, using markers to do so.

Considering that this project was entirely basic upon revision and experimentation, I did a lot of it. One thing that I experimented with was blending with markers. One can see that in the sky, I tried to blend the blue with pink, however I leaned that this does not work so well with markers.
