Infallible Pie Crust

This recipe was given to my by my friend, Linda, who got it from her mother.

~from Savoring Time in the Kitchen

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

2 teaspoons salt

1-3/4 cups shortening, such as Crisco

½ cup water

1 tablespoon vinegar

1 large egg

In a large mixing bowl, stir together the dry ingredients. Cut in the shortening with a pastry cutter or large fork.

In a small bowl, beat the liquid ingredients together and add to the flour mixture and mix until well incorporated.

Divide dough into 3 to 4 portions.

Roll out dough on a well-floured surface with a floured rolling pin, adding more flour if the dough is too sticky. Don’t worry about reworking this dough – it is infallible!
