John Keith Scott

John Keith Scott was born January 9, 1847 in Bellefontaine, Logan Co., Ohio to James Scott and Amanda Keith. He married Margaret Pasley on January 5, 1866. The family moved to Jasper Co., Illinois in 1880. The couple had ten children:

John died on November 1, 1929 near Willow Hill, Jasper County, Illinois. His obituary reads,

"John K Scott, son of James and Amanda Scott, was born in Ohio January 9, 1847. He departed this life at his home near Willow Hill, Illinois November 1, 1929 at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 21 days.

His father passed away while he was yet small. He came with his mother to Crawford County, Illinois when he was a small child. There he grew to manhood.

On January 5, 1966 he was married to Miss Margaret Pasley. To them were born ten children: three sons: James M., Daniel P., and Charles P.; three daughters: Mrs. Frank (Martha) Davis, Mrs. Samuel (Allie) Davis, and Mrs. Charlotte Gaddis with their mother preceding him in death.

He leaves to mourn three sons: William F. and John J. Scott of Augusta, Kansas, Robert Scott of Willow Hill, Illinois, one daughter, Mrs. Manning of Robinson, Illinois, forty-five grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. He resided in Jasper County forty-nine years, the last thirty-eight being spent where he passed away."

John came to Illinois from somewhere in Kentucky. He was a cabin boy on the Ohio River during the Civil War. He had some half-brothers named Wheeler.

OBITUARY:

John Keith Scott, son of James and Amanda Scott, was born in Ohio, January 9, 1847. He departed this life at his farm home near Willow Hill, November 1, 1929, at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 21 days.

His father passed away while he was yet small. He came with his mother to Crawford County, Illinois, when a small child where he grew to manhood.

On January 5, 1866 he was married to Miss Margaret Pasley. To them were born ten children. Of these three sons James M, Daniel P, and Charles, and three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Martha) Davis, Mrs. Samuel (Allice) Davis, and Mrs. Charlotte Gaddis, with their mother, precede him in death.

He leaves to mourn three sons - William F and John J of Augusta, Kansas, and Robert Scott of near Willow Hill, Illinois, one daughter Mrs Sarah Manning of Robinson, Illinois, 45 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

He resided in Jasper County 49 years, the last 38 years being spean where he passed away.

John Keith Scott came to Illinois from somewhere in Kentucky. He was a cabin boy on the Ohio River during the Civil War. He had some half brothers named Wheeler. He married Margaret Pasley on January 5, 1866. Margaret Pasley was born October 16, 1846 and died January 14, 1915. All ten children were born at Willow Hill, Illinois.

James M. Scott was born September 24, 1866, came to Augusta, Kansas, and lived in a shack south of Augusta. He married and have 4 or 5 children. He is buried at Augusta, Kansas.

William Frank Scott was born March 3, 1868. He lived in RObinson, Illinois. He and his wife sepaarated, had several children. His wife's name was Nelle. He lived in Augusta, Kansas.

Martha Scott Davis whose husband was named Frank was born January 15, 1870. She became a fine wife and mother, lives in Wheeler, Illinois, had four children. All four becamse school teachers. One was "shell shocked" in WWI. Ira Burwell always spoke well of both girls that married Davis. He said they treated him well.

Charlotte Scott Burwell Gaddis was born April 9, 1872 and married Oscar A Burwell. When they were first married they lived on the river bottom close to Grandmother Burwell-Boggs near Hidalgo, Illinois. They farmed one year on Grandpa Scott's farm at Willow Hill. They had two children - Verna in 1896 and Ira in 1898. She divorced Burwell and married Tom Gaddis, raised one adopted boy, fred Gaddis. She is buried at Duncan, Oklahoma, 1927.

Allie M. Scott Davis (Her husband was Sam, brother of Frank Davis) was born January 26, 1874 and lived in Wheeler, Illinois. She had six children and was a good wife, mother and provider. She had a fine home near Newton, Illinois. She signed a "note" for someone and had to seel her home to pay the note.

Sarah Scott Manning (husband's name Hugh) was born February 26, 1879. She was called Sadie. She lived at Willow Hill and Robinson, Illinois. She had 6 or 7 children. She ran her husband off, but kept the farm. Her husband became a Baptist minister.

Charles P Scott, born September 10, 1881 died in infancy.

Dan P. Scott born August 26, 1983. His wife Myrtle died with baby. Dan remarried and lived in Illinois but moved to Augusta, Kansas, and is buried there.

John J. Scott, born November 1, 1885 had a wife named Tiney, came to Augusta, Kansas to work in the oilfields and also did carpenter work. He is buried there. Two children, Burl Scott is living in Augusta in 1985 and Shirley Anderson in Springfield, Missouri.

Robert E Scott, born May 20, 1888, wife Cora, lived at Willow Hill. He moved in with Grandpa Scott when Grandma Scott died in 1915. He also lived one year in Augusta, Kansas, but went back to Illinois to live.
