Amanda Catherine Markwell
Amanda Catherine Markwell was born November 29, 1841 in Rush County, Illinois to French Markwell and Pernina Moore.
She married Francis Meriam Burwell on September 9, 1862. They had seven children:
1. James F. Burwell, born Mar 10, 1863, died Sep 12, 1864 in Jasper County
2. Laura Ella Burwell, born Jun 15, 1865, married Henry Jefferson Boggs (her step-brother) on Feb 8, 1881, died Feb 27, 1944 of cerebral hemorrhage on Feb 27, 1944 (source: death certificate)
3. Thomas Landon Burwell, born Mar 29, 1868, married Sadie Ward (on 03 Mar 1889 in Jasper) and Elizabeth Brackney (on 28 Feb 1897 in Jasper), died Jan 11, 1953
4. Alonzo Jay Burwell, born Jun 22, 1870, died Mar 29, 1888 in Jasper County
6. Francis Walter Burwell, born Mar 15, 1875, married Edna Boyles Mar 18, 1889, died abt 1955 in Jasper County
7. William Theodore Burwell, born Aug 15, 1877, married Mary Brown (on Jan 27, 1897) and Effie Orr, committed suicide on Jun 20, 1924 near Hidalgo, Jasper Co., Illinois
Amanda Catherine Markwell died January 23, 1907 in Hidalgo, Jasper County, Illinois.
From Ancestry.com note: Amanda had lost the use of one eye but it did not seem to hinder her from doing her bit for others. She raised 13 children of her own. After Francis Burwell died she remairried. The name of her second husband was Boggs. It was through Mike Boggs that I got a lot of this information. Erich Zellmer
