Ira Burton Burwell

Ira Burton Burwell was born February 26, 1898 in Willow Hill, Illinois to Oscar A. Burwell and Charlotte Scott. He had brown hair and brown eyes. He had one older sister, LaVerne.

His parents divorced when he was a toddler and his father moved to Oklahoma. Verna lived with Grandmother Burwell-Boggs and Ira lived with his Grandpa and Grandma Scott (John Keith Scott and Margaret Pasley).

When Ira was about nine, his mother married Tom Gaddis. The family moved to Drumright, Oklahoma to work in the oilfields and Ira followed suit, coming to Oklahoma on a train in 1915. His World War I registration card indicates he was working in the oil fields in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1918.

On May 24, 1919, Ira married Cecil Pearl Allender in Beckham County, Oklahoma.

They had five children:

1. June Delight Burwell, b. 1920 in Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma

2. Violet Marie Burwell

b. September 12, 1921 in Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma

However, she left him and took her children with her to Halstead and then moved onto Hutchinson in 1938 (source: family lore and Cecil's obituary).

Ira Burton Burwell died October 7, 1972 in Sayre, Oklahoma.
